Review:
The story is primarily focused on two characters while the female character is the protagonist named Anna, it is closely followed by a secondary male character named Thomas. The story trail begins with a man - specifically a cop discovering a woman at a scene of crime and unraveling some gruesome incidents in her life till that very moment and after. The girl having had lived a very sorry life since her birth which is set up in a certain backward era is depicted wonderfully and has been described to leave a lasting impact on the reader. The story is conveyed back and forth from both Anna and Thomas's perspective with several flashbacks leading us to several discoveries. The book had several grim events unfolded which ultimately lands her in the first scene where she is throwing off a cliff. Over a course of the book, we see that her savior is unconsciously attracted to her and she at some instance is attracted to him. She provided had side of the story.
Carmen is a skilled author with the ability to keep her readers engaged for a long time. This 395 paged paints a very descriptive pictures of the on going events in each of its character's lives. However, there were sections in the book which felt a little slow paced and extremely detailed. This can be looked at as both plus and a minus as the description helped with the flow, but in a way curbed one's imagination. The innocent blooming of love in a truly unexpected way with other series of events happening parallelly keeps its readers busy with anticipation.
Overall it is an truly enjoyable novel which is described at an unhurried pace the universe of circumstances in a familiar yet a unique way.
About the novel and the author:
Carmen Weiz was born in Brazil in the seventies, from a German mother and an Italian father. She graduated in Architecture in São Paulo. For over ten years she lived in Italy, and has been living in Switzerland for the last eight years. Encouraged by her mother, she became a great reader. Her passion for books and multiculturalism inspired this story.
