7 Ways to Travel More

Updated: Jun 3, 2018

I thought of sharing some means to travel more! I will share with you my thoughts on how you can start having a life of travel. No, it does not mean that you have to pack up right now and take off, but taking small trips once a month or larger trips with a week long vacation twice a year is a good start. Some of them are not even taking one. Explore the ways you can try to travel more going forward.

1. Plan before hand:

This way you can save money and time. How you ask? With proper research of the places you want to visit, you can identify when everything is available and when there is no peak seasons. This way you can eliminate time that you would waste waiting around or paying high prices due to peak seasons or last minute bookings. Keep a look out for low cost flights for round trips going someplace cool from your airport if you want to travel far or other train/bus fares for closer places. You can read blogs to see what the others have done, when and where they went. This way you can schedule a proper itinerary. Remember not to go somewhere just because the flights are cheap. You may end up spending more there to travel around once you reach. Travel somewhere you can pay for.

Talk to your boss to see if you can do work from “home” on vacation if you need more time. Don’t fall into the pressure of skipping holidays because your seniors don’t. Vacations are good for you. Try to plan leaves around national holidays or festival holidays. Try to take a couple of days off.

2. Save from the beginning:

You’ve got to Save. Reserve a vacation fund even if you have a lot of money. Begin to set aside a small amount of money. Do this every month or whenever you can exclusively for travel. Do not go back to count it. Let it accumulate. Once you have decided to go check how much you have saved up and how much more you will need. It might seem hard while you would rather spend on instant gratifications within the city, but if you managed to save, it will be worth it. Do not think much about. Try to transfer a fixed amount of money to another account or if you feel a little more inspired to travel, a little more. This way a lot of burden for money does not fall on that single month’s income. Try to actively save money.

3. Booking Flights:

One of the major expense that comes with traveling is booking flights. They are extremely volatile and it seems like the prices keep increasing every time you check it. That is because it does. That's called "demand and supply". The most common way to save up on fights is to collect points. If you have relatives or people going on business trips frequently, ask if you can use another point. Try to book flights to places during their off seasons when the prices will be comparatively low. Always book a round trip to save more. Try not to check the price several times. Once you decide on the place and dates, have the money ready and book the flights immediately.

4. Look for cheap Lodging:

Try to find good deals on Airbnb, Oyo, Z Hostel or other similar services. If you plan on going on treks, try to camp instead of finding rooms. It’ll definitely be worth the experience and hella fun! Try to go in big groups, that way you can rent bigger accommodation and split the money. Try to get credits while booking rooms while you are within the city or by asking someone to use your promo codes. Find accommodations that do that. This way you can save a big amount on stays. All it takes is a little effort.

5. Travel smart locally:

The minute you get off the plane and set out to your new destination, it’s always convenient to hop in a taxi – but it’s also always the most expensive. It’s unavoidable that you get a rental car, use public transportation, or maybe even Uber based on the number of people you are traveling with. It’s all the more important to compare rates for these modes of transport. You need to ponder about how much you’ll be traveling each day. Deliberately reflect on your options and choose the best one. Do free walking tours and tip what you feel is appropriate. You can find these in nearly every big city.

6. Activities:

See if you can go to, events using coupons in the city you are visiting. There might be lot of exciting activities that cost more, but do not miss experiences that you could enjoy now. You can always save up and come back another time. If you have already planned and research on these activities, find out which s the best and cheapest ones variable. Make sure that you have managed to save enough money for this and that it would not hinder your other needs like food and stay.

7. Food:

If you are not sure that you have enough money to eat out, you can do some local diners to try local food. One of the best parts of traveling is to experience the culture and trying out local food. Don’t miss out on that. You can enjoy your breakfast oats any other time. You do not get to enjoy the local street food all the time. Make sure you eat at a clean place, see if the vendor has gloves, and take medication for allergies beforehand. If you are, sure, that local food is not your scene then you can always cook at your homestay.
