A large population of human beings are suffering from depression, loneliness and anxiety. This is a serious issue that is unfortunately neglected. I case of severe case of depression or even a minor case of depression, there is no harm in asking for professional help. However, if you're not one of those people who are depressed and are identifying symptoms of the same, I suggest that you try the below list out!
1. Hug your Mom
In all truth, there is no better remedy than this. It brings in a sense of calmness within oneself. Hugging your mom particularly doesn't mean than you have to tell her everything. Just go up to her and cherish the warmth of her arms comfort. Her warm hug and gracious kisses will soothe your soul and reminds you several reasons to be thankful and happy for,or at-least one. So go ahead and give her a tight hug. Even if it has been very long, since the last time .
2. Hug a tree
The world is a neural network, where everything in some way or the other is inter-connected. While several living things dwell on earth, some may believe that to some extent, trees have souls just like us. There is life flowing through every inch of it and just by hugging them, the essence of life forces streaming within can be felt. These life forces are positive energy within itself .The roots of the trees are capable of growing above the surface of the earth and connect to the nervous system of any living thing, even human beings. Don't believe it? Hug a tree and experience it yourself.
3. Cuddle with someone you love
We feel a wave of exhaustion while we feel low. Our body refuses to do anything productive or even move. During such times all you want to do is lie down at all times. Well, go ahead and do it, but do it with someone you love. It could be anybody your love, brother/sister, a baby, or your pet. Cuddling enhances your mood and reduces depression. These therapeutic benefits are something to look forward to when you are low at the moment.
4.Hug your best friend
Second to family, friends are the only ones who care about your happiness and well being. They know you better than most of the people in your life, including yourself and will always know what to do when you are down or sad. Give them a hug and they would immediately sense that something is wrong, and would unconsciously send out love and warmth in that hug which lifts your mood and makes you feel better.
5. Hug your pet
We all know that our pets loves us more than a lot of people in our lives. Even when we ignore them, don’t feed them right or don’t see them for days, they will always love us. So, when you are feeling depressed or low, go ahead and hug your pet. They’ll show you why you are important and how much they love you. That is something to be happy about. It relaxes you. Enjoy that.
6. Talk to a stranger
We were told not to talk to strangers from a very young age. Under many circumstances, it is right. Talking to strangers may be a positive experience where we might sometimes learn that everyone is struggling in their own way and it is not just you. This makes you relate to them and makes you realize that we are all in it together. Another good thing about talking to new people is that we tend to put on our smiling face when we converse with them, saving our crankier side for people we love.
7. Smile a lot
It comes as no surprise that we prefer to be around chirpier people than the grumpier lot. Smiling isn't just beneficial to us but also to others. It is a natural way of lifting you mood. What more? People around you smile back. Smile, like music is a universal language and does not need a reason. Like children, we must learn to smile for no reason and be happy about the little thing in life. Being around someone who smiles a lot can be contagious. Smiling has numerous therapeutic and psychological benefits which makes you healthier.
8. Dance like no one is watching
Dancing has the power to improve both our physical and emotional health as the mind and body are connected. It increases our focus over time, improves our self-esteem and helps reduce stress. Similar to meditation, it moves energy through your body and liberates you from a depression. You can move however you like throwing your arms and release all the negativity that surrounds you.
9. Listen to music
Music is a universal language. Listening to soulful music when you are gloomy awakens you from within. The vibrations of music have healing power, both to the mind and soul. It improves mental activity, in turn improving your mood. For any sort of discomfort, sickness or depression, music can help bring you back to a healthy state. Music therapy may also improve mental state and can reduce pain.
10. Talk to yourself
It is really important to talk to yourself. As Swami Vivekananda once said “Talk to yourself at least once in a day. Otherwise you may miss a meeting with an excellent person in this world”. When you talk to yourself, you’re paying attention to yourself. This way you will truly communicate and understand what is going on with you. It even gives you a mental boost and creates a self awareness. Utilize this to create a positive aura around you. Be positive and love yourself.
